Ingredients

1 cup margarine
1 cup powdered sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla
2 tablespoons beaten egg
2 1/4 cups sifted flour

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Combine all ingredients.

  3. Roll out thin (about 1/16 - 1/8 inch), using powdered sugar to keep dough from sticking to rolling pin or surface. Cut in shapes.

  4. Bake for approximately 7 minutes.

Decorating Suggestion: We use cream cheese frosting and decorate circle cookies with wreaths each year.

Love this recipe, so easy and cookies are so tasty. Love the texture which is probably due to using powdered sugar.

I have been using this recipe for over 10 years. It is easy to make, delicious (dough AND cookie!). The cookies are tender, but if you roll them on the thicker side (1/8"), you are able to decorate them without them breaking. I have added almond extract for something different, and I generally use half butter, half margarine with wonderful results and a slightly richer flavor than using all margarine.
