Ingredients
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons margarine or butter, softened
1 egg
2 squares (1 ounce each) unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup milk
Nutmeg Sauce:
cook the following ingredients together in 1-quart saucepan over low heat for 5 minutes, stirring occasionally
1/2 cup half and half
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/2 cup margarine or butter
1 cup sugar
Directions
Grease a 4 cup mold.
Beat sugar, margarine, egg and chocolate in 1 1/2-quart bowl with hand beater until blended.
Mix remaining ingredients except milk and Nutmeg Sauce; stir into chocolate mixture alternately with milk. Pour into mold. Cover tightly with aluminum foil.
Place mold on rack in Dutch oven or steamer; pour boiling water into Dutch oven halfway up mold.
Cover Dutch oven. Keep water boiling over low heat until wooden pick inserted in center of pudding comes out clean, about 2 hours.
Prepare Nutmeg Sauce. Remove mold from Dutch oven and let stand 5 minutes; unmold. Serve hot with Nutmeg Sauce.
