Ingredients
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 1/3 cups buttermilk or sour milk
1/2 cup shortening, margarine or butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 egg whites
10 ounce bag Reese's chips
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Grease and flour 2 9-inch round cake pans.
In a bowl combine flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and 1/8 teaspoon of salt.
Add buttermilk, shortening and vanilla.
Beat with an electric mixer on low speed for 30 seconds, scraping bowl occasionally.
Add egg whites and beat for 2 minutes more, scraping bowl.
Pour in 10 ounce bag of Reese's chips - stir with spoon.
Pour into prepared pans.
Bake at for 30 to 35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Cool on wire racks for 10 minutes.
Loosen sides and remove from pans.
Cool thoroughly on wire racks.
