Ingredients

approximately 50 saltine crackers
1/2 cup butter
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup chocolate chips (white, dark, milk, semisweet or mixture)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Line a jelly roll pan with aluminum foil.

  3. Layer tightly placed saltine crackers on top of foil.

  4. Melt butter in saucepan. Add brown sugar and stir over medium heat until it forms a thick syrup.

  5. Pour syrup evenly over crackers.

  6. Spread with a spatula to be sure all crackers are coated with syrup.

  7. Bake for 15 minutes (be careful not to burn).

  8. Sprinkle chocolate chips over hot crackers and let stand for 2 minutes until chocolate chips are melted enough to spread.

  9. Lightly spread the chips with a spatula or knife until there is a smooth coating of chocolate.

  10. Chill until hard.

  11. Peel off the foil.

  12. Break into pieces and serve.

I can't keep enough of this around. It is so easy to make. I did have to cut the baking time down to 7 min. anything over that and it burns quick.

This will be the 3rd year in a row I've made this candy. It's never failed me yet. This time I'm adding peanut butter chips as well as semisweet chocolate. Last year I chopped up the little mint hershy kisses. They were ahhhhhmazing in my humble opinion:)
