This has been in our family for years. You will find this as a Dream for Chocoholics ! It is all mixed directly in the cake pan. Vanilla ice cream goes great with it.

Ingredients

2 cups flour
4 tsp. baking powder
1 ½ cups sugar (white)
½ tsp. salt
4 tsp. cocoa
1 cup milk
4 T. oil
2 tsp. vanilla
2 cups brown sugar
½ cup cocoa
3 ½ cups boiling water

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Sift or shake the following dry ingredients into a well greased 9 x 13 inch baking pan: flour, salt, 4 tsp. cocoa, sugar (white), and baking powder.

  3. Blend milk, oil and vanilla together and then stir into dry ingredients that are in the baking pan. Blend it together to make a batter.

  4. Mix the brown sugar and remaining cocoa together and sprinkle it on top of the batter in the pan.

  5. Carefully pour the boiling water over the top of everything and bake in a 350 degrees oven for 45 minutes.

  6. Cool slightly before serving. This is a strange recipe… not only how it is constructed, but as it bakes, it separates into a brown topping, floating on top of a rich deep chocolate pudding.
