1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, softened
2 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

Add the eggs and beat together well. Then stir in the buttermilk. Add the flour, the cocoa, the baking powder, the baking soda and the salt. Stir until dry ingredients are just moistened.
Put the batter in the loaf pan.
Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 55 to 65 minutes. (It's done when a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean!)
Cool for 15 minutes. Slice and serve.
The bread is great with strawberry or cherry preserves or raspberry jam.

This recipe will surprise you. Absolutely fabulous texture and taste. The recipe is so simple. The texture of the bread is light and slices well. The wonderful aroma and taste will keep you coming back to this elegant and most chocolate taste and smell you could ask for. A wonderful gift item because this bread is one of a kind with the creamy buttermilk texture. Barbara in Sarasota, Fl.
