Ingredients
3/4 cup shortening
1 1/4 cups firmly packed light brown sugar
2 tablespoons milk
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 egg
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup chopped pecans (see note)
Directions
Heat oven to 375 degrees.
Combine shortening, brown sugar, milk, and vanilla in large bowl.
Beat at medium speed with electric mixer until well blended.
Beat egg into creamed mixture.
Combine flour, salt, and baking soda.
Mix into creamed mixture just until blended.
Stir in chips and nuts.
Drop rounded tablespoonfuls of dough three inches apart onto ungreased baking sheet.
Bake 8-10 minutes for chewy cookies or 11-13 minutes for crisp cookies.
Note: If you want to omit the nuts, add an additional 1/2 cup of chocolate chips.

BEST COOKIE'S I'VE BAKED. GRANDSON AND HUSBAND LOVE THEM. THEY ARE AIRY AND SOFT, JUST LIKE THEY LIKE THEM. CHEWY.
