Ingredients
1 package dried apples
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon or apple pie seasoning
2 cups sugar
Crust:
pinch of salt
2 cups flour
1/3 cup cold water
oil for frying
2 tablespoons shortening (preferably Crisco)
Directions
Soak dried apples in enough water to cover, before cooking.
Cook apples in saucepan until tender in soaking water.
Pour in sugar, butter or margarine and vanilla.
Mash with potato masher; cool.
Crust:
Blend flour, salt and shortening in mixing bowl with fork until ingredients look quite mealy.
Add water gradually.
Make soft dough (pinch off small balls).
Roll on floured board about the size of a saucer.
Put about 2 tablespoons of apples on dough and fold over.
Fork edges to seal.
Fry in deep fat. Brown on both sides.
